Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

This policy explains how Mary Jane Ansell ("we", "us") collects and uses your personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We are the data controller for data collected through this website. Questions? Email: contact@maryjaneansell.co.uk

1. Information We Collect

We may collect your name, email, phone number, and postal address when you make an enquiry or place an order; payment details processed securely via Stripe or PayPal (we never store card details); and anonymous website usage data via cookies and analytics tools (Squarespace, Google Analytics).

2. Why We Collect It and Our Lawful Basis

We process your data to fulfil orders and commissions (contract); to respond to enquiries and improve our website (legitimate interests); to send marketing emails where you have opted in (consent — withdrawable at any time); and to meet legal and tax obligations (legal obligation).

3. Sharing Your Data

We do not sell or rent your data. We share it only with: payment processors (Stripe, PayPal); shipping providers (name and address only); website and analytics platforms (Squarespace, Google Analytics); and legal or regulatory authorities where required by law. Where providers transfer data outside the UK, appropriate safeguards are in place.

4. Data Retention

Purchase and commission records are kept for a minimum of six years (HMRC requirement). Enquiry correspondence where no purchase follows is deleted after 12 months. Mailing list data is held until you unsubscribe or request deletion.

5. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict your data; to data portability; to object to processing; and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@maryjaneansell.co.uk. We will respond within one calendar month.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.

6. Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies (no consent required) and analytics cookies (Squarespace, Google Analytics). Our cookie notice allows you to manage preferences on your first visit. You can also manage cookies via your browser settings. Cookie use is governed by UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

7. Automated Decision-Making

We do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling.

8. Security

We use Squarespace's secure hosting and encrypted third-party payment processors. No internet transmission is 100% secure, but we take all reasonable steps to protect your data. In the event of a breach likely to affect your rights, we will notify you and the ICO without undue delay.

9. Third-Party Links

This site may link to external websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. The current version will always be available on this page with an updated date.
