Of Dreams, Birds and Bones (2017), presented at Corey Helford Gallery, is a body of work that emerged during a period of both personal and political upheaval. The paintings revisit familiar figures within my practice, including Liberty, as a way of exploring questions of belonging, identity, and the shifting nature of patriotism. Created in the wake of the 2012 London Olympics and during the years surrounding the Brexit referendum, the work reflects a time when ideas of nationhood felt increasingly unsettled, not only in the United Kingdom but across much of the world.

Alongside these broader themes runs a quieter, more personal thread. During this period, my mother was seriously ill, and the act of painting became a way of processing memory, emotion, and the passage of time. While the work is not explicitly autobiographical, it is deeply rooted in lived experience. I have always been drawn to the symbolic language of nature—birds, bones, and found fragments—stand in here as vessels for meaning, fragile and enduring they remind us that, despite loss, there is continuity.

A number of works from this series are available as limited edition prints.
