FLORALIA I — Limited Edition of 50

Floralia I and II were the first paintings in what became a recurring series — made during lockdown, when the world contracted and it felt like my garden expanded to fill it. Tending flowers and watching them bloom became a way of staying sane, and those hours rekindled a long-held love of the Dutch Master flower painters — Rachel Ruysch and Jan van Huysum above all.. These two paintings were my homage to the ancient Roman festival in honour of Flora, goddess of flowers and spring — a celebration of everything that blooms.

Together these two paintings form the foundation of what became a continuing series of works celebrating botanical life, Dutch Master tradition, and the particular consolation of growing things.
