The old magpie rhyme counts its way toward the seventh bird — the one that carries a secret. This painting is a meditation on that final count, on the shadow cast by what cannot be spoken. Birds appear throughout my work as recurring presences, and here the magpie arrives in its most charged form: not the single bird of bad omen, but the seventh, the keeper of the unknowable thing. Seven of this edition remain.
