GEORGIE — Limited Edition of 30
In 2009 this painting was selected for the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London — and that summer, enlarged many times over, it appeared on posters and banners across London and throughout the Underground. To see a painting you made in your studio reproduced at that scale, hanging outside a gallery that had shaped you as a young painter, is one of those moments that stays with you.
The subject is Georgie Hobday, one of the most significant models of my early career and a recurring presence across many paintings from that period. She appears in Girl in a Cocked Hat, Girl Ashore, and elsewhere — a muse in the truest sense, someone whose particular quality of stillness and presence kept drawing me back. Twenty of this edition remain.
